Summary: Before: On his way home from a trip to Yuma,
Arizona, Ben is ambushed and a blow to the head causes him to lose his
memory. Just hours later, a body is discovered on the road coming into
Yuma. The man's face is beyond recognition, but on the inside of his
hat a name is distinctly printed: Ben Cartwright.
With Adam and Hoss on a cattle drive, Joe is the only one home when
word reaches the Ponderosa of Ben's death and burial in Yuma. Overcome
with grief he sets off towards Yuma to investigate the circumstances of
his father's death.

Summary: Joe
returns home late from a trip and finds that Ben, realizing Joe was

late, has sent Hoss to Pineville in place of him. All seems well until

shootout resulting in Hoss's death. As Ben needs time too himself to
grieve, it
is up to his youngest son to pick up the responsibilities around the
ranch and
push aside his own feelings to allow his father this time. Moving from

responsibility to the next keeps Joe from thinking about the tremendous
loss he
feels until a couple of days later when he comes across a letter in his
father's desk addressed to him.........from his brother, Hoss.
