Happy Birthday, Little Joe
By: Lynne G.
Adam had been at college for a month now and he really
missed his family especially his baby brother, Little Joe who was the heart
of the family.
As Adam sat down at his desk to write a letter that would be included with
the birthday gifts he had bought for his little brother who would turn six
years old on October 31, Adam began to write.
" Dear Little Joe,
How are you doing little buddy ? I have to tell you how much I miss you
and I especially miss hearing that silly little giggle of yours. Everytime
I think of it, it makes me giggle too !"
" I hope you are taking good care of Pa, Hoss and Hop Sing. I know
that you will keep them safe and happy."
" I can't believe that you are going to be six years old already !
It seems like only yesterday you were born- the day that changed our lives
forever and for the better."
" When I first laid eyes on you laying so lovingly in your mama's arms
it brought tears to my eyes. I couldn't believe how tiny and how cute you
were. I had never seen a baby so tiny before. At that instant, I knew that
you had captured my heart forever."
" When I held you for the first time and looked down at you, you were
looking up at me with a tiny smile on your precious little face and you
held on to my finger so tightly. I was surprised at how strong you were
for being so tiny. I loved you so much !"
" I am so happy that we all had our photos taken this summer and I
had copies made up so I could bring them with me to college. Now, even though
I can't be there with you, I can look at your photos everyday and that makes
all of you feel closer to me."
" I just love to see that little twinkle in your eyes and that prize
winning smile of yours little buddy."
" If there would have been a good college closer to home, I would have
gone there so that I could have still lived at home, but sadly there weren't
any."
" How do you like going to school now ? I hope you enjoy it, and that
you like Miss Jones. She is a wonderful teacher. I bet you have a good time
playing and meeting children your age at school too."
" I know that Hoss is very happy to have you go to school with him.
I feel so much better just knowing that you will keep him safe on your way
to school, at school and again on your way home from school."
" How are your kitties doing? I hope they are still keeping the mice
away. I have to tell you that I miss them very much, especially all of their
silliness. Maybe one day you can get a photo of them and send it to me.
Of course, I want you in that photo too little buddy !"
"Do you have big plans for your birthday ? I bet Hop Sing will make
your favorite food for dinner-fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn
and the best part, a big chocolate cake. That makes me hungry just thinking
about it !"
"I hope that you will like the birthday gifts I got for you little
brother. I wish I could be there to see you open them and to see all the
excitement on your face, but since I can't be there, I will do the next
best thing and that is, I will look at your photo and wish you a very Happy
Birthday !"
" Well my dear little buddy, I had better put this letter in your package
and get it mailed off to you so you will get in time for your big day."
" I love you so much Little Joe ! You keep being a good boy for Pa.
I love you and have a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY !"
Love,
Adam.
PS.
Please tell Pa, Hoss and Hop Sing a big " Hi " from me !"
With tears in his eyes, Adam lovingly folded up Little Joe's letter and
he put it in the package, sealed it up and headed off to the post office.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE JOE/ MICHAEL LANDON !!!!!!!!!!
