RESCUE
A
grand-nephew of Ben Cartwright, Kevin, was
staying at the Ponderosa. The lad had already a close bond with Hoss
and they were
often to be found together near the water. Though Kevin kept silent
about that
he couldn’t swim.
At a
certain day the two were to be found at the water. Because Hoss had his
attention by his fishing he had lost the boy out of sight.
Kevin said
to himself, “I am going swimming.”
Suddenly
the boy tripped and he almost fell into the water . Hoss looked up and
saw what
was happening.
As a spear
he ran to Kevin and he grabbed the boy out of the water.
“Dadburnit
Kevin, what are you doing?”, Hoss said strict.
“I wanted
to walk along the water but almost fell in it by accident
”, said
Kevin.
“Can you
swim?”, asked Hoss.
Kevin shook
of no.
“You can’t
swim but still you play near the water each day. Then you must know
that you
can fall ino it?”, was the next question of
Hoss.
The boy
nodded.
“Promise me
that you stay by me as long as we are here and not go alone to the
water”, Hoss
said at a strict tone.
Kevin
nodded again.
The sermon
of Hoss had helped because Kevin went to play a bit further away from
the water
so that he couldn’t or wouldn’t fall into it.
