Homeward Bound

(Adam’s song.)

I’ve roamed all over the earth and sea
But only one place seems home to me
I’ve gone by foot, boat, and horse
But I feel I’m straying from my course
I’ve traveled hard, with restlessness
But my mind returns with happiness
To my home on the Ponderosa.

There beneath the mighty pine bows
That welcoming land, that family house
There my family dwells, never changing
That father and those brothers always staying
There my heart yearns to go to
That pine strewn land to go to
To go to my home on the Ponderosa

But oh, if my heart is to be full
Might there be a girl smart and youthful?
If I return to the hard-working life
Might I settle and find me a wife?
If there be a maiden so true
Might I be fortunate to meet you?
Meet you and bring you
To my home on the Ponderosa.

Now I am home, now I am near
What a feeling so strong, is it fear?
Now I see the old familiar places
What might be changed in the old familiar faces?
Now I see that old, wonderful house
What difference is hidden beneath those its bows?
Surely nothing can change to my home on the Ponderosa.

The faces that I now see
Bring such happiness to me
The new ones, the old ones
Bring memories from the eons
The trees, the land, the daylight long
Bring thoughts, and now a song
A song of my home on the Ponderosa

Now the night starts to close
Tomorrow brings the unknown
Now I say goodnight say to all goodnight
Tomorrow I shall start the fight
Now I understand my heart
Tomorrow I return to my part
My part in my home on the Ponderosa
